The Next 5 States Voting On Recreational Marijuana This Year

Five states in the United States are voting this November on initiatives that would make recreational marijuana legal for adults to use. Along with those five are four other states voting on marijuana for medical use. Making a total of nine that could join almost half of the United States that have already legalized marijuana in some fashion.

Four of the five states voting for recreational marijuana have new polls out that show a strong probability of passing the recreational marijuana measures. These four states are: Arizona, California, Maine and Massachusetts. Nevada, however, has a much more narrow margin showing both sides around 47%.

One of the most important of these states is California’s initiative to legalize cannabis for recreational use. If Proposition 64 is approved, all of the states on the west coast would have legalized marijuana for recreational use. A unique factor about California’s initiative, it could reverse the charges related to marijuana for thousands of people who live there.

Marijuana By State

Marijuana is currently legal for recreational use in Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Alaska and the District of Columbia. As the map shows above, marijuana for medical use is legal in almost half of the united states.
