New Poll Points To Marijuana Legalization In Massachusetts This Fall

Massachusetts voters have less than two months to decide if they are going to vote on Question 4 to legalize cannabis statewide. A new poll from WBUR/MassINC  states that 50% of voters plan to vote “Yes” on the initiative. With only 45% planning on voting “No”. The final 5% remain undecided.

The poll also shows that a huge 80% Massachusetts voters don’t think that consuming cannabis is “morally wrong”, even if they don’t support legalization, only 14% do. The final 6% is still undecided.

The campaign supporting the initiative, the Yes on 4 Campaign, has raised about $2.4 million in support of the effort. That is close to seven times the amount raised by the opposition, the Campaign for a Safe and Healthy Massachusetts.

The proposal, if approved, would legalize the use of recreational marijuana making it the fifth state in the U.S. to do so. Like other states, the proposal would allow people 21 and older to possess up to one ounce of marijuana for personal use. Adults would also be allowed to grow up to six cannabis plants. A 3.75 % Excise tax would be issued to all retail sales of marijuana, as well as a 6.25% statewide sales tax.
