Medical Marijuana Patients In Canada Can Now Grow At Home

Breaking- Health Canada, the federal department responsible for helping Canadians maintain and improve their health, announced today that registered medical marijuana patients can now grow their own cannabis in the privacy of their own home.

Up until now, medical marijuana patients living in Canada could only purchase their marijuana from one of the few approved dispensaries.

The new rules are set to go into effect on August 24, and the amount of plants the patient is allowed to grow will be determined on a case by case basis. Patients will be given a prescription to grow depending on the amount of cannabis they will intake.

“If an individual wants to produce a limited amount of cannabis for his/her own medical purposes, he/she must submit an application to register with Health Canada,” according to the new guidelines.

“An original medical document from the health-care practitioner must be provided and the application must include information such as the location of where cannabis will be produced and stored.”

Also, if the patient is not healthy enough to grow their own plants, they will have the option to designate someone to grow on their behalf. These growers would need to pass a background check, past drug offences within the last ten years will prevent them from growing. Growers will only be allowed to grow for one patient at a time.
