Aurora, Colorado To Use Pot Profits To Help The Homeless

Aurora, Colorado – The third largest city in Colorado is expecting to earn over $4.5 million from the sales of recreational and medical marijuana. In an Aurora city council meeting recently, members agreed to give initial approval to allocate up to $1.5 million in tax revenue for homeless services on next years budget.

Of the $1.5 million, $220,000 of it will go to the Colfax Community Network. The Colfax Community Network, or CNN is a group whom helps families living in motels with necessities like toiletries, food and diapers.

Aurora is hoping to use the profits from sales of marijuana to help benefit the community and give back to the city. Along with the homeless, members have also agreed to give some of the funds to Comitis Crisis Center and Aurora Mental Heath.

In 2015, state legislators let Colorado voters decide how to spend the money. The final numbers stated 70% of Colorado residents wanted to give proceeds back to the state for schools, marijuana education and prevention initiatives, substance abuse treatment and more. Now there are even more reasons to brag about the benefits of statewide recreational marijuana.
