Cannabis Licensing Regulations Are Being Drafted In Jamaica

Jamaica Marijuana

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Ministry of Industry in Jamaica recently stated that The Cannabis Licensing Authority has begun drafting regulations to oversee the cultivation and sale of marijuana for medicinal, research or religious purposes.

Although the plant is not legal for recreational sale inside the country, recent changes to the laws have made recreational and personal use of the plant a petty offence. This recent amendment has piqued the interest of American companies looking for new partners and opportunities. Given the country’s well known history of Rastafarianism and ties to marijuana, this makes Jamaica a exciting new business prospect for American marijuana industry business owners who are looking to do business outside of the United States.

The country has plans of creating a legal medical marijuana sector and the first drafts of the new regulations are aimed at the regulation of the plant from seed to sale. Adults are allowed to have five or fewer plants per household and Rastafari adults are now permitted to use marijuana for sacramental purposes. The new law also legalizes Medical Marijuana for both locals and foreigners who have a doctor’s recommendation from their home country.
