Oregon Readies Themselves For Recreational Marijuana

Oregon Recreational Weed

Medical marijuana has been sold legally in Oregon for almost a year and a half. Soon, a shift in culture and policy is about to play out. On October 1st, adults ages 21 or over will be allowed to purchase small amounts of marijuana legally for personal or recreational use.

More than 340 medical marijuana dispensaries operate legally across Oregon. Most Eugene-Springfield medical dispensaries plan to welcome recreational users when sales become legal on October 1st.

The rules state that adults 21 years and older with identification can buy up to a quarter ounce of dried leaves and flowers per day. An individual dispensary can sell to each adult up to four starter marijuana plants between Oct. 1 and the end of December 2016. There is no limit to the number of seeds they can sell an adult.

For the time being, marijuana edibles still remain illegal.

It is unknown if state regulators will continue to allow dispensaries to sell to patients and recreational customers under one business license. The OLCC is currently drafting rules to regulate the recreational marijuana sales.

Oregon dispensary owners and managers are preparing their stores as well as they can in anticipation for a high demand of marijuana.
