New York’s Medical Marijuana Applicants Receive Scores

The State of New York’s Department of Health issued scores for marijuana applicants seeking to receive licenses to grow and dispense medical marijuana. All applicants’ scores were on a scale of 1 to 100 with the highest scoring dispensary receiving a 97.

Only five winners were selected, all with scores over 90. Many other dispensaries missed with narrow margins. The Department of Health weighs a number of criteria when making the decisions.

“As part of the selection process, DOH sought to ensure that proposed dispensaries are located throughout the state in order to meet the needs of all certified patients,” the health department said in a statement. “Additionally, DOH will carefully monitor patient demand to ensure all New Yorkers who meet the requirements of the Compassionate Care Act have access to the program.

The five winners will be allowed to produce up to five types of marijuana products in the forms approved by the state Health Commissioner. These products include oils, vaporization, and capsules. The Law bans smokeable forms of medical marijuana.

The state of New York expects medical marijuana to be available to patients by January 2016.
