Marijuana Legalization could be on the 2016 Michigan ballot

Lansing – The petition was approved on Thursday for two measures to legalize marijuana for the November 2016 state ballot. The Board of State Canvassers unanimously approved the petition wordings for the Michigan Cannabis Coalition and the Cannabis Law Reform Committee.

These groups must now collect almost 253,000 signatures to send the legislation to legalize marijuana before the Legislature. If not approved by lawmakers, the proposed laws would then go before the public in November of 2016.

Attorney Jeffrey Hank, chairman of the Cannabis Law Reform Committee, rejected suggestions his group’s petition was too hard to read.

“I think it’s perfectly readable and the wording is publicly available and has been for some time,” Hank said.

Recreational marijuana is legal in Washington state, Colorado and Washington, D.C., and is expected to become legal in Oregon this summer.

If you live in Michigan, please take a moment to contact your Michigan legislators about this important initiative. Let them know that you support it.
